About TheYardCalc
Building transparent, contractor-grade material estimators for American homeowners, DIYers, and trade professionals.
Our Founding Mission
TheYardCalc was created in response to a glaring problem in the home improvement industry: most construction calculators on the internet are clunky, littered with spammy pop-ups, require forced email registration, or worse, use generic theoretical formulas that fail on real jobsites.
When a DIY homeowner orders 3 cubic yards of concrete for a patio based on a superficial calculator and runs short by 8 wheelbarrows because the tool ignored form deflection and trench depth variances, the financial and physical stress is enormous. We set out to build a clean, fast, 100% free resource where every formula is transparent, physical densities are grounded in actual quarry standards, and waste factors are explained with clarity.
Our Core Estimating Standards
We use physical laboratory constants: 145 lbs/cu ft for hot-mix asphalt, 4,050 lbs/yd³ for ready-mix concrete, and 2,600 lbs/yd³ for screened topsoil.
We never hide the math. We teach users why a 10% safety overage prevents catastrophic short-load dispatcher fees.
90% of our users access tools on mobile phones while standing on a jobsite or lumber yard aisle. All touch targets exceed 48px.
No sign-ups, no user accounts, and no data tracking. The tools open immediately and run 100% locally on your device.
